Carrboro, North Carolina, will celebrate Earth Day, Carrboro Day, and Open Streets on Sunday, April 19, 2026, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. This combined celebration will bring people together for an afternoon of eco-friendly activities and outdoor fun. Enjoy a car-free Weaver Street as downtown Carrboro transforms into vibrant spaces for cycling, walking, and exploring green initiatives. The idea of Open Streets is to close streets to motorized traffic and open the streets up to fun, recreation and community. The festivities will take place on East and West Weaver Street in Downtown Carrboro. Music & Dancing at Town Hall 12:15 p.m. – Honey Magpie 1:15 p.m. – Tim Smith 2:15 p.m. – Takiri Folclor 3 p.m. – Wake Moody Poetry readings will take place between musical and dance performances. Poetry at Town Hall Featuring a dynamic lineup of local voices, including Carrboro’s newly appointed Poet Laureate: 12:05 p.m. – Dr. Amanda Bennett, Carrboro Poet Laureate 1:05 p.m. – Matt G. Taylor, local Carrboro poet 2:05 p.m. – Gemella Marey Punongbayan, Carrboro High School student 2:50 p.m. – Vickie Fornville & Vianna Fornville (mother/daughter duo) Family-Friendly Activities & Art Experiences The Scrap Exchange will host hands-on crafting using recycled and reusable materials, inspiring creativity and environmental awareness. Emerson Waldorf School will lead eco-friendly children’s activities along West Weaver Street.
