These works explore mothers, mothering, and what it means to mother upon–in the sense that mother is both noun and verb, a moniker that is both specific and expansive. The preposition “upon” carries immediacy in the physical and abstract sense. What does it mean to mother upon? To love, to hold, to nurture, and to support. To set a mother upon something means the task will be done. There is promise, action, and legacy in the phrase.
