Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants in Raleigh
We eat out with our kids at least twice a week, and after years of navigating meltdowns, cracker trails, and "I don't like anything on the menu" moments, we've built a solid rotation of Raleigh restaurants that genuinely welcome families. These aren't just places that tolerate kids β they actually make the experience enjoyable for everyone at the table.
Our Top Picks by Neighborhood
Downtown Raleigh
Beasley's Chicken + Honey on S. Wilmington Street is our go-to when we want something a step above fast food but still need the meal on the table quickly. The fried chicken tenders are legitimately some of the best in the city, and the honey drizzle wins over even our pickiest eater. High chairs available, noise level is loud enough that nobody notices your toddler, and most meals run $10-15 per adult. Kids plates are around $6-8.
Videri Chocolate Factory in the Warehouse District is technically more of a treat stop, but the hot chocolate and chocolate bars make a perfect post-errand reward. It's a working factory so kids can watch chocolate being made through the glass windows. Free to visit, treats run $3-8.
North Raleigh
Mellow Mushroom on Falls of Neuse Road has been our family pizza night standby for years. The funky decor keeps the kids entertained, the pizza is reliably good, and they have a solid gluten-free crust option. Crayons and coloring sheets provided. Budget $35-50 for a family of four. High chairs and booster seats available.
Neomonde Mediterranean on Beryl Road (technically Midtown, but close enough) is fantastic for adventurous eaters and cautious ones alike. The cafeteria-style ordering means food arrives fast, the hummus is a universal kid hit, and you can mix and match plates. Most meals run $8-12 per person. Changing table in the restroom. Outdoor patio seating is great in spring and fall.
Cary Border / West Raleigh
Irregardless Cafe on Morgan Street is a splurge-worthy spot that surprises people with how kid-friendly it is. They've had a dedicated kids menu for decades, live music on weekends (jazz brunch is a neighborhood institution), and the staff genuinely doesn't flinch at stroller parking. Kids meals $6-9, adult entrees $16-28. Reservations recommended for weekend brunch.
Best For Quick Service With Kids
Char-Grill (multiple locations across Raleigh) β Sometimes you need a burger and you need it in under 10 minutes. Char-Grill delivers every time. The setup is old-school: order at the window, grab a picnic table, and let the kids run around the parking area while you wait. Burgers and fries for a family of four will run you about $25. Cash or card accepted at most locations now.
Boba Tea House on Hillsborough Street near NC State is a surprise hit with our kids. They love choosing their own boba flavors and toppings, and the popcorn chicken is genuinely excellent. Most drinks are $5-7, snacks $4-8.
Restaurants With Outdoor Play or Extra Space
Transfer Co. Food Hall in Raleigh's Olde East neighborhood is probably our number-one recommendation for families with kids under 6. The indoor food hall has multiple vendors (so everyone can pick what they want), but the real magic is the huge outdoor courtyard with picnic tables and room to roam. On nice days, kids play while parents finish eating in peace. Individual meals run $8-16 depending on the vendor.
Morgan Street Food Hall downtown is the bigger, louder sibling. More vendor variety, arcade games, and a general vibe that says "bring the whole crew." It can get crowded on weekend evenings, so we prefer weekend lunch. Most meals $10-15.
