Best Smoothie and Acai Bowl Spots in the Triangle
Getting kids to eat (or drink) something healthy shouldn't require a negotiation, and smoothies and acai bowls are one of the few genuinely healthy foods that kids actually ask for. The Triangle has a growing number of smoothie and bowl shops, and we've tested them all with our resident kid-critics.
Raleigh
Tropical Smoothie Cafe has multiple Raleigh locations and is our reliable, everyday smoothie spot. The menu is huge (both smoothies and food), the smoothies are consistent, and most locations have drive-through. Smoothies $5-8, food items $7-10. Kids love the Jetty Punch and the Island Green. Pro tip: you can add spinach to any smoothie (your kids won't taste it, we promise).
Juice Vibes on Glenwood Avenue is a step up in quality. Cold-pressed juices, acai bowls, and smoothies made with whole ingredients. The acai bowls are beautiful (great for Instagram-obsessed tweens) and genuinely delicious. Bowls $10-14, smoothies $7-10. The Raleigh location is small but comfortable.
Clean Juice has a few Triangle locations offering USDA-certified organic smoothies, juices, and acai bowls. If organic matters to your family, this is the place. Smoothies $7-9, bowls $10-13. They have kids-sized options.
Durham
Pulp & Press Juice Co. focuses on cold-pressed juices and smoothies. The quality is excellent, and they have creative combinations that taste more like a treat than health food. Juices $7-10, smoothies $8-10. Smaller shop, more of a grab-and-go vibe.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe has Durham locations with the same reliable menu. Drive-through available at most.
Cary
Vitality Bowls in Cary serves superfood-focused acai bowls, smoothies, and panini. The Dragon Bowl (pitaya base) is visually stunning and kids love the bright pink color. Bowls $10-14, smoothies $7-10. The space is clean and welcoming for families.
SoBol (if open in your area) offers build-your-own acai bowls where kids get to pick their toppings from a bar. The interactive element makes it fun. Bowls $8-12 depending on toppings.
Rush Bowls in Cary serves blended acai and fruit bowls with a wide range of toppings. Bowls $8-12. Good portion sizes for the price.
