Fifty dollars. Two days. A family of four. Can you actually have an amazing weekend in the Triangle for that? Absolutely. The Triangle has more free and cheap activities than almost anywhere, and this itinerary proves it. Here is the breakdown, with every dollar tracked.

Start with pancakes, eggs, or oatmeal at home. No restaurant. The kids can help cook. This is part of the fun, not a sacrifice.
10:00 AM β NC Museum of Natural Sciences ($0)
The greatest free museum deal in the state. Three floors of dinosaurs, live animals, a butterfly conservatory, and interactive science exhibits. You can easily spend 2 hours here and nobody gets bored.
