1. Staff-to-child ratios: Should be similar to daycare standards (1:4 for toddlers, 1:8 for school-age) 2. Background checks: All staff should be background-checked 3. Licensing: Check that the facility is licensed by the state 4. Cleanliness: Drop-in centers should be as clean as any daycare 5. Activity quality: Kids should be engaged, not just parked in front of a TV 6. Your child's reaction: Visit first if possible, and trust your gut
PNO Schedule Planning
Here is a rough calendar for planning regular date nights:
How to Choose
For regular daytime drop-in care: KidsPark in Cary for the flexibility, reliability, and no-reservation policy.
For date night with young kids: YMCA PNO events for the affordable pricing, or Flour Power for the guaranteed fun your kids will have.
For gym time: YMCA membership for the included Child Watch. Best value for fitness + childcare.
For in-home babysitting: UrbanSitter for vetted sitters, or your neighborhood network for trusted local options.
For occasional overnight care: Build a relationship with 2-3 reliable babysitters first, then consider overnight sitting for special occasions.
You deserve time without your kids. It makes you a better parent when you come back. These resources make it possible without the guilt.
