Going to a Durham Bulls Game with Kids: The Complete Family Guide
Minor league baseball is genuinely one of the best family outings in the Triangle, and the Durham Bulls at Truist Field might be the best version of it in all of North Carolina. The atmosphere is fun without being overwhelming, tickets are affordable, there's always something happening between innings, and kids under 9 usually end up caring more about the mascot and the cotton candy than the actual game โ which is perfectly fine.
We've been going as a family for years, and I've made enough rookie mistakes (showing up at 7 PM on a Friday when gates opened at 6, parking in the wrong lot, not knowing about the kids' meal deal) that I can save you some time.

Why Durham Bulls Baseball Works for Families
The Bulls play in the International League (Triple-A, one step below the majors), which means you're watching genuinely good baseball. The stadium seats about 10,000, which is big enough to have a real buzz but small enough that you can always see the action clearly from anywhere.
For kids, the key things: the snack options are actually good, the games move at a reasonable pace (usually 2.5โ3 hours), there's a playground area beyond the outfield fence, and the Bulls' mascot Wool E. Bull makes the rounds through the stands. My youngest has shaken his hand approximately 47 times.

Best Nights to Go
Wednesday โ Kids Eat Free
This is the best deal for families. Kids 12 and under eat free (hot dog, chips, and a drink) with each paid adult ticket on Wednesday home games. For a family of four with two adults and two kids, you're looking at significant food savings. Check the Bulls website for which Wednesdays it applies โ it's most (not all) home Wednesday games.Thursday โ Dollar Dog Thursday
Hot dogs for $1 all night. Yes, just $1. Your kids will eat three. You've been warned.Friday & Saturday โ Fireworks
Post-game fireworks shows on most Friday and Saturday nights through early July. Kids lose their minds for fireworks after a baseball game โ it's a perfect cap to the evening. Plan for it and bring a blanket to spread out on the grass beyond center field.Sunday โ Kids Run the Bases
After every Sunday home game, kids can run the actual bases on the field. My kids ask about this before we've even left the parking lot at other games. You line up along the first base line after the final out, and they run the full diamond. It's free with game admission and completely worth it.โ-
Best Seats for Families
Sections 101โ105 (first base side, lower level) are my recommendation for families with young kids. You're close to the action, you can easily access the concession stands, and you're not too far from the playground area in right field if you need a break.
General Admission sections in right field are the most budget-friendly and also the most relaxed โ kids can run around a bit more freely and you can set up lawn chairs if you want. Not ideal if your kid actually wants to watch baseball, but great for the 2-5 crowd.
Avoid the upper deck with toddlers โ it's a lot of stairs and the sightlines to the action aren't as good.

Truist Field is in the American Tobacco Historic District, right next to DPAC. There are a few good options:

Food & Concessions
The Bulls have stepped up their food game significantly. Beyond hot dogs and nachos, you'll find:
Prices are reasonable for a baseball stadium โ a hot dog is $4โ6 depending on the night, nachos around $7. Nothing too outrageous.

Tickets
Buy online at MiLB.com or directly on the Durham Bulls website โ it's cheaper than the box office and you can pick your seats. Look for family packs that bundle tickets + parking + food credit, which can save $10โ20 per family.
Single-game tickets for the 2026 season typically run:
Check for group rates if you're coming with another family or two โ groups of 20+ get significant discounts.
