Community Egg Hunts (Free & Low-Cost)
Cary Parks & Rec Egg Hunts
Cary runs several neighborhood egg hunts in the weeks leading up to Easter. They're split by age group β usually toddlers/preschool, elementary, and sometimes a special needs hunt β which I love because it means your kids aren't getting plowed over by older kids. Registration opens in late March and fills fast. Check CaryCitizen.com or the Cary Parks registration portal for exact dates and locations.WakeMed Soccer Park (Cary)
If you haven't been to the big community egg hunt at WakeMed Soccer Park, you're missing out. It's free, well-organized, and they hide thousands of eggs across the fields. Arrive 30 minutes early because parking fills up. Bring your own basket and dress kids in layers β April mornings in NC can still be chilly.Town of Holly Springs Easter Event
Holly Springs typically hosts a free egg hunt at Bass Lake Park with bunny photo ops, face painting, and spring activities. It's one of the nicest setups in the area, especially for the 2-and-under crowd who get their own dedicated area.Durham Parks & Rec
Durham's recreation centers run age-divided egg hunts across multiple locations. The events sell out, so watch the Durham Parks and Recreation website in early March. Northgate Park and Southwest Park locations tend to be the most popular.β-
Farm Visits & Nature Egg Hunts
Spring Haven Farm (Chapel Hill)
Spring Haven Farm on the outskirts of Chapel Hill is one of my all-time favorites for a low-key, nature-filled Easter. You can wander through flower fields, meet baby animals, and often they run a self-guided egg hunt in the garden area. Tickets sell out on Easter weekend, so buy online early. Worth the $10-15 per child β it's an hour of genuine delight.Historic Yates Mill County Park (Raleigh)
Yates Mill runs Easter-themed nature programs through Wake County Parks. Think scavenger hunts focused on spring wildlife rather than plastic eggs β really well done for the curious kid who loves learning. Sign up through Wake County Parks registration. The setting around the mill pond is gorgeous in April.Eno River State Park (Durham)
For families who want to skip the commercial chaos: Eno River's trail to Few's Ford is peaceful, beautiful in spring, and you can do your own nature egg hunt by hiding eggs along the trail. Parking fills up on holiday weekends so arrive before 9 a.m.β-
Bunny Photos
Skip the mall line this year. Several local farms and boutique studios offer bunny photo sessions that are much less chaotic and way cuter. Look for:

Museum & Indoor Easter Events
Museum of Life and Science (Durham)
The Museum of Life and Science is a fantastic Easter destination when you factor in the butterfly house (which is magical in spring), the dinosaur trail, and their spring programming. They run special Easter weekend activities. Buy tickets online β it sells out on the holiday weekend.Marbles Kids Museum (Raleigh)
Marbles sometimes runs spring-themed drop-in activities in the weeks around Easter. Free for members, admission for non-members. Good option if the weather turns on you.NC Museum of Natural Sciences (Raleigh)
Always free, always great. The Nature Research Center has hands-on activities kids love, and in spring you'll find programming around butterflies, baby animals, and spring ecosystems. Easter weekend is popular so go early.β-
Tips for Easter Weekend in the Triangle
Book restaurant Easter brunch early. Places like Irregardless Cafe, The Pit, and most hotels fill up for Easter brunch weeks out. If you're planning a family brunch, make that reservation now.
Egg hunts happen before Easter. Most community events happen the Saturday before (April 19) or the week before Easter. If you're waiting until Easter Sunday, you'll mostly find church events. Check event calendars in the first week of April.
Bring cash to farms. Many local farm events are cash-only or have limited card readers.
Layer up. April 2026 forecast for the Triangle is typical spring β could be 55 and drizzly or 75 and sunny. Pack a light jacket.
Don't forget the basket photo! Easter morning in a backyard full of tulips or dogwood blooms β that's the Triangle in April. Set up 5 minutes before the hunt for an easy keepsake photo.
