Family-Friendly Breweries and Taprooms in the Triangle
Here's something that surprised us when we first moved to the Triangle: breweries here are genuinely family-friendly. We're not talking about grudgingly tolerating kids β many of these spots have outdoor play areas, regular food trucks, and a vibe that says "bring the whole family." We visit at least one brewery a week during nice weather, and our kids love it.
Raleigh Breweries
Trophy Brewing + Pizza on Maywood Avenue is probably the most family-friendly brewery in Raleigh. Their pizza is legitimately excellent (not just good-for-a-brewery good), there's a spacious patio, and the crowd is a mix of families, couples, and friend groups. Pizzas $14-18, pints $6-8. Kids can have sodas or juice. High chairs available inside.
Clouds Brewing on E. Whitaker Mill Road has a huge outdoor space, regular food trucks, and a laid-back atmosphere. We bring lawn chairs and blankets, and the kids play on the grass while we enjoy a beer. Pints $6-7, food truck prices vary ($8-14 typical). Check their social media for weekly food truck schedules. Dog-friendly too.
Gizmo Brew Works in the Glenwood South area has one of the larger taprooms in Raleigh with games (cornhole, Jenga) that keep older kids entertained. They regularly host food trucks and sometimes have live music. Kid-friendly until about 8 PM when the crowd skews older. Pints $5-7.
Durham Breweries
Ponysaurus Brewing Co. on Main Street is our Durham favorite. The taproom is big and bright, the outdoor space is generous, and they have a solid food menu (not just food trucks). The "Biere de Garde" is a local legend. Pints $6-8, food items $8-14. Very stroller-friendly.
Fullsteam Brewery on Rigsbee Avenue embraces the "Southern beer garden" concept. The huge outdoor area often has games, events, and food trucks. They've hosted kid-friendly events and the general atmosphere is welcoming to families, especially before 7 PM. Pints $5-7.
Hi-Wire Brewing Durham on Foster Street has a great taproom with board games and a relaxed feel. The space is open enough for kids to move around without being in anyone's way. Regular food trucks parked outside. Pints $5-7.
Cary & Beyond
Bond Brothers Beer Company in downtown Cary is a standout. The taproom is spacious, the outdoor patio has plenty of seating, and they regularly host food trucks that are a step above average. Weekend afternoons here are full of families. Pints $5-7, food truck meals $8-14.
Fortnight Brewing in Cary has one of the best outdoor spaces β a large grassy area with picnic tables that feels almost like a park. They rotate food trucks throughout the week and the vibe is very relaxed. Pints $5-7.
Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs is worth the drive if you're in south Wake County. Family-friendly taproom, outdoor seating, and a good selection of approachable beers. Pints $5-6.
