Top Pediatric Practices by Area
Raleigh
Carolina Pediatrics of the Triangle — Multiple locations across Raleigh and the surrounding area. One of the largest independent practices in the region. Pros: extended evening and weekend hours, in-house labs, and a nurse advice line. Cons: it's a big practice, so you may not always see the same provider. Most insurance accepted.
Capitol Pediatrics — A smaller practice near Glenwood South with a loyal following. Known for taking time with families and not rushing appointments. Accepts most insurance. Getting a new-patient slot can take a few weeks.
Village Pediatrics — Located in North Raleigh with a warm, community feel. The doctors here are known for their patience with nervous first-time parents (raises hand). They have a dedicated lactation consultant on staff.
Durham
Duke Primary Care Pediatrics — Part of the Duke Health system with multiple locations. The advantage is seamless referrals to Duke specialists if your child ever needs them. The after-hours nurse line is staffed by Duke pediatric nurses. Various locations including Southpoint and North Durham.
Bull City Pediatrics — An independent practice in downtown Durham that's become a favorite among young families. Diverse staff, inclusive environment, and they make sick visits easy to get.
Chapel Hill Pediatrics & Adolescents — Despite the name, they serve Durham families too. Multiple locations. Outstanding reputation for developmental screenings and adolescent care.
Cary / Apex
Palpallatoc Pediatrics (Cary) — Dr. Palpallatoc has a cult following among Cary moms. The wait for new patients is long, but families swear by the personalized care. Small practice, so you always see your doctor.
Cary Pediatric Center — A well-established practice with multiple providers. They offer same-day sick visits most days, which is a lifesaver.
Cornerstone Pediatrics (Cary/Apex) — Newer practice that's quickly gained a loyal following. Online scheduling, efficient visits, and a strong focus on parent education.
Chapel Hill / Carrboro
Chapel Hill Pediatrics — The go-to in Orange County. Multiple providers, excellent reputation, and they handle everything from newborns to college students. The Timberlyne location is easy to access.
UNC Pediatrics at Meadowmont — Part of UNC Health, located in the Meadowmont Village. Access to UNC specialists is a major plus.

The First Year Reality
You'll see your pediatrician a LOT in year one — well visits at 3 days, 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months, plus sick visits. Location and ease of scheduling matter more than you think. A practice that's 30 minutes away feels like a bad decision when your baby has their fourth ear infection.

Insurance and Cost
Most Triangle pediatric practices accept major insurance plans (Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare). A standard well visit copay runs $20-$40 with insurance. Without insurance, expect $150-$250 for a well visit.
Medicaid: NC Medicaid covers children's health care. Carolina Pediatrics, Duke Pediatrics, and UNC Pediatrics all accept Medicaid.
Hidden Gems
Switching Pediatricians
It's okay to switch. You don't need to explain yourself. Simply call the new practice, schedule a new-patient visit, and sign a records release form. Your child's records are legally yours.
Signs it might be time to switch: you can never get a timely appointment, you feel rushed during visits, your concerns are dismissed, or you've moved and the drive is no longer practical.
