Kid-Friendly Food Halls and Food Trucks in the Triangle
Food halls and food trucks solve the number-one family dining problem: everyone wants something different. Dad wants tacos, Mom wants poke, the 8-year-old wants pizza, and the toddler wants whatever everyone else is having. Here's where to find the best options in the Triangle.
Food Halls
Transfer Co. Food Hall - Raleigh
Location: 500 E. Davie Street, Raleigh (Olde East neighborhood)This is our top pick for family food hall dining. The outdoor courtyard is spacious and kid-friendly, with picnic tables and enough room for kids to move around. Inside, vendors include:
Individual meals $8-16. The space fills up at weekend lunch, so arrive before 11:30 AM for the best seating. Restrooms available, changing table in the family restroom.
Morgan Street Food Hall - Raleigh
Location: 411 W. Morgan Street, Raleigh (downtown)The bigger, buzzier food hall option. Over a dozen vendors covering everything from sushi to BBQ to acai bowls. The arcade area in the back is a hit with older kids (games cost $1-3 each). It's louder and more crowded than Transfer Co., which honestly works in your favor β nobody notices your kids being kids. Individual meals $10-16. Weekend evenings can be very crowded.
Durham Food Hall - Durham
Location: 530 Foster Street, DurhamSmaller and more curated than the Raleigh halls. Highlights include Napoli Pizza (great slices), and the coffee is excellent for parents who need fuel. The space is open and navigable with strollers. Individual meals $8-15. Less crowded than Raleigh options.
Boxyard RTP
Location: Park Point Drive, Research Triangle ParkBuilt from shipping containers, this outdoor food and drink venue has a fun visual vibe that kids love. Multiple food options, open-air seating, and a generally relaxed atmosphere. It can be hot in summer (minimal shade), but spring and fall visits are fantastic. Individual meals $8-14.
Food Truck Culture in the Triangle
The Triangle has one of the most active food truck scenes in the Southeast. Here's how to find them:
Regular Food Truck Events
Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo (Fayetteville Street downtown) happens several times a year and features 50+ trucks. It's massive, crowded, and our kids love it. Arrive early for shorter lines. Meals $8-14 per person. Check City of Raleigh events calendar for dates.
Durham Central Park Food Truck Rodeos happen periodically and are slightly smaller but equally excellent. The park setting gives kids room to run between bites.
Brewery Food Trucks β Most Triangle breweries host food trucks daily or on weekends. Check brewery social media for schedules. This is honestly our most common food truck experience.
