Affordable Venue Parties
Bowling
AMF Bowling (multiple Triangle locations) and Buffaloe Lanes offer birthday party packages starting around $10-$15 per kid (typically includes 1-2 games, shoe rental, and a slice of pizza). For 10 kids: $100-$150.

Budget Tips That Actually Work
The Cake
Skip the custom bakery cake ($50-$100+). Costco sheet cakes ($20-$25) are delicious and feed 20+. Food Lion and Walmart bakeries also do custom cakes under $25. Or make boxed cake and let kids decorate their own cupcakes as an activity.
Invitations
Use Evite or a free Canva template. Paper invitations are charming but cost $15-$25 for printing and postage. Save that for food.
Decorations
Dollar Tree is your best friend. Balloons, streamers, tablecloths, and banners β all $1.25 each. You can do a full decoration setup for $10-$15.
Goodie Bags (Or Skip Them)
Goodie bags stuffed with plastic junk that ends up in the trash within a day? Skip them. If you want to send something home, try:
The Schedule Hack
Keep the party to 90 minutes max. Longer parties require more food, more activities, and more energy. For young kids, 1-2pm (between naps) works great.
Sample Under-$200 Party Plan
Theme: Park party with a "safari" theme | Item | Cost | |βββ|βββ| | Shelter at Pullen Park | $50 | | Costco sheet cake | $22 | | Animal print plates/napkins (Dollar Tree) | $10 | | Juice boxes (24-pack) | $8 | | Goldfish crackers and fruit | $15 | | Dollar Tree decorations | $12 | | Animal sticker sheets as favors | $8 | | Total | $125 |
Your kid will remember running around with their friends, blowing out candles, and feeling special. They will not remember whether the napkins matched the plates or whether you hired a balloon artist. Spend your energy on presence, not Pinterest perfection.
